Ranch Foreman

Job Description

Ranch Foreman

Cavender Ranch, Leakey Texas

The Cavender Ranch is in Real County three (3) miles north of Garner State Park on State Highway 83. The 50-acre property is situated along the Rio Frio River and serves as the weekend destination for the Cavender Family. The Ranch has been owned by the Cavender Family for over 120 years.

For the last 44 years, the Ranch has been meticulously maintained and cared for by Paul Rubio who lived on the Ranch with his wife and family. Paul was the ultimate “handyman” and considered as a family member. Unfortunately, Paul died unexpectedly on July 7 and now the Cavender's seek a responsible person to take over Paul's responsibilities and live on the ranch.

The Cavender Ranch foreman's responsibilities include a variety of tasks related to ranch operations, maintenance, facilities, landscaping, and fishing tanks.

We anticipate that the time required to properly accomplish such tasks on a weekly basis range between 8-15 hours per week. While this is technically a part time job, this is a salaried position with highly variable work hours.

Here are examples of job requirements:

  • Maintenance and repair-Overseeing the maintenance and repair of ranch buildings, vehicles, and equipment, including fences, irrigation and well water systems.
  • Facilities-Keeping ranch facilities in good working condition, including supervision and coordination of housekeepers, pest control, and plumbing. Preparing the river houses for guests prior to arrival on weekends.
  • Grounds-Maintaining the ranch grounds, including lawn maintenance, pesticide application, and hand watering.
  • Swimming Pool Maintenance (2 pools)-Procurement of chemicals. Regular servicing of pools and pool equipment.
  • Supplies-Assisting with purchasing supplies and equipment.
  • Communication-Reporting back to the ranch owner and communicating openly with others verbally and via email and text.
