Ranch Assistant

Job Description

Monday-Friday, 8:00-4:30| Start Rate: $18.00

Job Purpose or Objective(s): The Ranch Assistant position is primarily responsible for assisting the Ranch Manager/Ranch Foreman implement the diversified operational plan consistent with the Choctaw Nation Agriculture Department’s overarching mission and strategic plan.

Primary Tasks:

Monitor and provide supplemental feed, mineral and water to all livestock.

  • Assist with herd health, routine processing, calf pairing and transport activities.

  • Identify unhealthy animals, when necessary, administer approved treatment program.

  • Monitor forage availability and assist grazing management/utilization efforts.

  • Perform routine (ex. chemical, mechanical and prescribed fire) pasture maintenance.

  • Provide property upkeep including fence repair/construction, mowing, trimming, litter removal, painting, etc.) and security.

  • Operate and perform maintenance on equipment including tractor, skid steer, chute, vehices, etc. safely and respectfully.

  • Assist in hauling cattle and maintaining Cattletime database for CNO Ranches.

  • Provides data and reports to management.

  • Perform other duties as may be assigned.


Requirements:

  • Experience or knowledge of fence construction/repair, basic plumbing, excavation, road maintenance, brush control, hay/pasture management, equipment repair, etc.)
  • Good listening skills and has the ability to safely perform all duties
  • Knowledge of livestock care, stockmanship, and husbandry
  • CLD preferred
