Overview
Keller Broken Heart Ranch is seeking a hardworking, organized, and detail-oriented Livestock & Ranch Operations Coordinator to support daily cattle operations, herd management, breeding activities, livestock records, pasture management, and production-sale preparation.
Keller Broken Heart Ranch is a family-operated Simmental and SimAngus™ cattle operation focused on developing high-performance genetics while maintaining calving ease, maternal ability, carcass quality, growth, and structural soundness. The successful candidate will work closely with the ranch team to maintain the health, productivity, and performance of the herd while supporting day-to-day ranch operations.
Responsibilities
- Assist with daily care, feeding, handling, and monitoring of Simmental and SimAngus™ cattle
- Monitor herd health, behavior, body condition, breeding activity, calving, and general livestock performance
- Maintain accurate records for individual animals, including identification, pedigree, breeding information, health records, weights, and performance data
- Assist with breeding programs, artificial insemination activities, pregnancy checks, and synchronization procedures under the direction of ranch management and veterinary professionals
- Support calving operations and monitor cows and newborn calves for potential health or management concerns
- Assist with vaccinations, deworming, health treatments, hoof care, and other routine livestock management procedures
- Collect and organize performance information used for genetic selection and herd improvement
- Assist with tracking EPDs, pedigrees, weights, carcass information, and other performance indicators used in breeding decisions
- Coordinate cattle movement between pastures, pens, working facilities, and transportation areas
- Assist with pasture rotation, fencing, water systems, haying, feeding, and general land-management activities
- Maintain livestock facilities, handling equipment, trailers, feeders, gates, fencing, and ranch machinery
- Support preparation of bulls, females, and other breeding stock for private sales, production sales, customer inspections, and transportation
- Assist with sale-day preparation, including cattle organization, documentation, customer coordination, and livestock movement
- Maintain accurate inventory records for feed, veterinary supplies, equipment, and ranch materials
- Work with ranch management, veterinarians, livestock specialists, buyers, and other agricultural professionals as needed
- Follow established animal-welfare, biosecurity, workplace-safety, and livestock-handling procedures
Requirements
- Previous experience working with cattle, livestock, ranch operations, farms, or agricultural production preferred
- Strong understanding of basic cattle handling and livestock behavior
- Ability to work outdoors in changing weather conditions and perform physically demanding ranch duties
- Strong attention to detail when monitoring animal health and maintaining livestock records
- Ability to safely handle cattle and operate ranch equipment
- Strong organizational and time-management skills
- Dependable work ethic and willingness to work flexible hours during calving, breeding, feeding, and sale periods
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multigenerational ranch team
- Valid driver's license
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Animal Science, Animal Husbandry, Agriculture, Agribusiness, Range Science, or a related field
- Previous experience with Simmental, SimAngus™, Angus, or other beef cattle breeds
- Knowledge of cattle genetics, EPDs, pedigrees, performance testing, and breeding selection
- Experience with artificial insemination, embryo-transfer programs, pregnancy diagnosis, or reproductive management is a plus
- Familiarity with livestock record-management and herd-management software
- Experience preparing cattle for livestock shows, production sales, private-treaty sales, or breeding-stock marketing
- Experience operating tractors, loaders, hay equipment, trailers, livestock handling systems, and other agricultural machinery
- Basic knowledge of pasture management, hay production, feeding programs, and winter livestock care
