Internship - Land Management

About the Opportunity

We are seeking a motivated and self-driven Agriculture / Land Management / Land Rider Intern to join our operations team. This internship offers hands-on experience in agricultural production, livestock management, land stewardship, conservation practices, infrastructure maintenance, and property monitoring within a working ranch and agricultural environment. This position is ideal for students pursuing degrees in Agriculture, Animal Science, Natural Resources, Environmental Science, Wildlife Management, Ranch Management, or related fields who are interested in developing practical skills related to agricultural operations, resource management, and rural leadership.

Responsibilities

Land Management & Stewardship

• Conduct soil sampling and range condition assessments
• Identify native and invasive plant species throughout the property
• Assist with grazing management and pasture monitoring activities
• Evaluate conservation opportunities and land stewardship practices
• Participate in habitat improvement, erosion control, and resource management projects

Livestock & Agricultural Operations

• Assist with daily livestock management activities and herd observations
• Support feeding programs, animal identification, and livestock recordkeeping
• Participate in cattle handling, movement, and pasture rotation activities
• Assist with crop scouting, forage evaluations, and field inspections
• Observe and support irrigation, fertility management, hay production, and pest management operations

Infrastructure & Water Resource Management

• Inspect and repair fencing systems throughout the property
• Conduct inspections of ponds, stock tanks, water systems, and drainage structures
• Assist with basic operation and maintenance of agricultural equipment
• Evaluate rural infrastructure and document maintenance needs
• Create and maintain inventories of water, fencing, and property infrastructure assets

Wildlife Monitoring & Conservation

• Conduct wildlife surveys and habitat assessments
• Monitor wildlife interactions with agricultural operations
• Evaluate water sources and habitat conditions for wildlife populations
• Assist with conservation planning and habitat enhancement initiatives
• Develop recommendations to improve long-term sustainability and stewardship practices

Data Collection, Technology & Reporting

• Collect and maintain accurate land, livestock, infrastructure, and resource records
• Utilize GPS and GIS technologies to support mapping and property management activities
• Assist with digital boundary mapping and resource inventory development
• Prepare reports, assessments, and management recommendations
• Complete a capstone project focused on property improvement, conservation, infrastructure, or operational efficiency

Land Rider Operations

• Conduct routine property patrols and inspections
• Monitor fences, livestock, water systems, wildlife activity, and property conditions
• Identify maintenance, operational, and security concerns
• Document observations and complete daily and weekly activity reports
• Support independent land management and stewardship responsibilities under supervision

Safety

• Strictly adhere to all company safety policies, procedures, and guidelines
• Properly use required personal protective equipment (PPE)
• Participate in safety meetings and training programs
• Promote a culture of safety, environmental stewardship, and operational excellence

Qualifications Required

• Currently enrolled in a degree program in:
• • Agriculture
  • Animal Science
  • Natural Resources
  • Environmental Science
  • Wildlife Management
  • Ranch Management
  • Or a related field
• Strong work ethic and willingness to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
• Excellent observation, communication, and problem-solving skills
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Ability to maintain accurate records and reports
• Commitment to safety, environmental stewardship, and continuous learning

Preferred

• Previous experience with livestock, farming, ranching, or agricultural operations
• Experience operating agricultural equipment or working outdoors
• Familiarity with GPS, GIS, mapping software, or agricultural technology
• Knowledge of conservation, wildlife management, or natural resource principles
