Position Overview

The Stable Hand is responsible for the daily care of horses and the upkeep of barn facilities to ensure a clean, safe, and functional environment. This role involves hands-on work with horses as well as general maintenance duties around the stable.

Key Responsibilities

  • Feed horses according to established schedules and dietary requirements
  • Clean, inspect, and maintain waterers to ensure a consistent supply of fresh water
  • Perform basic maintenance and repairs on automatic waterers
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of stalls, aisles, and common areas
  • Observe horses daily and report any signs of illness, injury, or behavioral changes
  • Troubleshoot and repair PVC irrigation systems, including valves, fittings, and water lines.
  • Safely operate tractors, attachments, and other grounds maintenance equipment.
  • Safely operate ATVs and utility vehicles throughout the facility.
  • Perform physically demanding work, including lifting, carrying, and moving materials weighing up to 100 pounds.
  • Utilize basic hand and power tools to perform facility repairs and preventative maintenance.
  • Respond to facility maintenance issues in a timely manner to support safe and efficient operations.

Qualifications

  • Experience working with horses preferred but not required
  • Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting, bending, and working on your feet for extended periods
  • Basic plumbing skills for minor repairs are preferred
  • Reliable, punctual, and able to work independently
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to animal care

Work Environment

This position is based in a barn and outdoor setting, with exposure to varying weather conditions, dust, hay, and livestock.

Pay: $18.00 - $26.00 per hour
