RJR Ranch is looking for a full-time Barn Care Specialist to take ownership of the cleanliness, organization and day-to-day care of our horse barns.

PLEASE NOTE: THIS POSITION DOES NOT INCLUDE HOUSING, RV SPACE OR LIVING ACCOMMODATIONS. We are ideally looking for someone who already lives in the New Plymouth/Western Treasure Valley area or has their own housing and reliable transportation.

This is NOT a riding, training or cowboy position. This is a hands-on barn care position for someone who takes a lot of pride in keeping things exceptionally clean, neat and organized.

We currently have one barn with 8 indoor/outdoor stalls plus 6 outdoor stalls and are adding a second 6–8 stall barn.

WHAT YOU’LL DO:

• Muck and maintain stalls in both barns
• Add and maintain shavings as needed
• Clean outdoor stalls and pens
• Clean manure from horse and roping areas
• Empty manure wagons
• Vacuum, sweep and blow out barn pavers, aisles and common areas
• Wipe down stall fronts, dividers and metal
• Clean and scrub automatic waterers
• Clean feed mangers and feeding areas
• Keep hay and feed areas clean and organized
• Pressure wash barn floors and other areas as needed
• Empty trash and keep garbage areas clean
• Clean and organize the bathroom, office, tack rooms, feed rooms, storage rooms and other barn areas
• Clean, oil and condition saddles and other tack
• Keep tools, supplies and equipment clean and organized
• Catch, halter and safely move horses
• Feed and water horses as needed
• Catch horses and put them on the walker as needed
• Wash horses and comb/maintain manes and tails
• Pay attention to the horses and recognize when one may be sick, injured or simply isn’t acting normally

WHO WE’RE LOOKING FOR:

• Above everything else, we need someone who is SELF-MOTIVATED.
• We aren’t looking for someone who finishes a checklist and then waits to be told what to do next. We want someone who walks through the barn, notices what needs attention and takes care of it.
• If a stall front is dirty — clean it.
• If a waterer needs scrubbing — scrub it.
• If tack is out of place — organize it.
• If a manure wagon is full — empty it.
• If something doesn’t look right with a horse — notice it.
• You need to be observant, dependable and obsessed with keeping things clean and neat. We want someone who takes personal pride in how the barns look every day.
• Horse experience preferred. You don’t need to be a trainer, but you do need to be comfortable safely catching, haltering and handling horses.

SCHEDULE:

• This is a full-time position. The normal workweek will include Mondays and most Saturdays, with another day off during the week.
• Sundays are normally off. When we are out of town, there may occasionally be a need to help feed or care for the horses on a Sunday.

COMPENSATION:

• Starting salary of $38,000+ per year, depending on experience.
• RJR Ranch also contributes toward employee health insurance.

IMPORTANT — NO HOUSING:

• There is NO housing, apartment, RV space or other living accommodations included with this position. Applicants must provide their own housing and reliable transportation to and from the ranch.
• We would especially like to find someone who already lives locally and is looking for a stable, long-term position.
