Ranch Hand

A small (105 head) family owned and operated Longhorn cattle ranch is seeking a motivated, dependable, all-around ranch hand to join our team. This role requires someone who is a self-starter, able to work independently, and comfortable handling a wide range of daily ranch operations. This is a hands-on position with a wide variety of responsibilities. Each day on the ranch brings something different and the ideal candidate will be comfortable taking on different tasks as they come. We are looking for someone who takes pride in their work and can be counted on; someone who does not need to be constantly supervised and is looking to grow with the ranch. This is not a riding or cowboy position. We cannot sponsor H2A at this time.

Responsibilities

1. Water system operation, maintenance and repair
2. Assisting with cattle work as needed (vaccinations, horn measurement, branding, pasture moves, medical care, pregnancy checks)
3. Daily cattle oversight and maintenance (feed, hay, water, general monitoring, checking fences)
4. Horse stable care: mucking stalls, feeding, watering and over all maintenance
5. Duck house cleaning, feeding and upkeep
6. Fence repair and maintenance
7. Operating tractors, lawn mowers, weed eaters, sprayers and other equipment
8. Service and maintain ranch equipment as needed
9. General ranch duties and maintenance as assigned (may vary dependent on ranch needs)

Qualifications

1. Basic mechanical skills
2. Ability to operate tractors, skid steers and similar equipment
3. Punctual, reliable and have a strong work ethic
4. Ability to work independently or as part of a team
5. Ability to lift and carry up to 80lbs
6. Valid driver’s license, clean driving record and reliable transportation
7. Subject to a background check and drug screening
8. Comfortable and experienced working around cattle (Longhorns a plus) and horses
9. Experience hauling and backing large trailers
10. Ability to follow instructions and work safely

Position Details

1. Hours per week needed regularly fluctuate based on seasons and emergencies
2. Full-time position, 30-60 hours per week
3. Competitive wages based on experience (will be discussed during interview process)
